Between a major update to the beloved FRAKTA bag coming in 2018 and a new line inspired by ’70s textile patterns, there’s been a lot to keep IKEA fans excited these last few months. But the Scandinavian powerhouse’s latest collection may just be its most daring yet.
The brand announced it’s teaming up with stylist Bea Åkerlund for a new furniture line, debuting in March 2018, and you’ll want to prepare yourself, IKEA lovers, because these pieces are a tad quirkier than your average BILLY bookcase.

Akerlund is the woman responsible for some of the music world’s most iconic looks, from Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video to that yellow Roberto Cavalli dress in Beyonce’s “Lemonade” album.
Called OMEDELBAR, the Stockholm-born fashionista’s limited-edition collection will feature large glass hats, red lip-shaped cushions, 3D-printed hand-shaped jewelry displays, not to mention a leather-studded chair and a B-shaped lamp.
“It’s a collection that allows for not taking life so seriously,” Akerlund says. “I want people to have a little fun in their lives. You can get one hand and put it on the wall, or 100 hands and turn it into a piece of art. Buy one lip pillow, or buy 20 to create a lip pillow ocean. Fill the hat with anything: from apples to your collection of buttons, to your bathroom essentials. It’s really all up to you.”
A little eccentric? Yes, but that doesn’t mean we love it any less than our usual IKEA staples. Keep scrolling for a full look at Akerlund’s upcoming collection.
